Hannah-Shmouni F, et al. BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2017-222411 Description A 29-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) due to NF1 gene deletion presented for evaluation of long-standing secondary amenorrhea. She noted increasing growth of her hands and feet, inability to fit her ring on her fingers and increasing shoe size (currently US size 12). Physical examination revealed coarse and asymmetrical facial features, arthropathy with large hands and feet and multiple café-au-lait lesions. Biochemical evaluation was consistent with growth hormone (GH) and prolactin excess. Pituitary MRI with T1-weighted images showed a voluminous and symmetrically enlarged gland (overall dimensions 15×9×13 mm), with a heterogeneous hypointense lesion within the posterior pituitary, measuring 6×6×10 mm (figure 1A, arrow). On the fluid-attenuated inversion recovery and T2-weighted images, the lesion was markedly hypointense (not shown). There was no radiographic evidence of optic pathway tumours. Due to both elevations in GH and prolactin, it was decided to treat her acromegaly with cabergoline. A follow-up pituitary MRI was obtained 2 months after initiation of therapy that showed reduction in pituitary size and enlargement of the hypointense lesion (figure 1B). The abnormality within the pituitary is most consistent with a Rathke's cleft cyst, a benign, epithelium-lined intrasellar cyst that is a remnant of the Rathke pouch (arrows). The cyst slightly increased in size following the reduction in pituitary volume from cabergoline therapy. GH excess in patients with NF1 is extremely rare but may be under-recognised. Indeed, acromegaly most often arises from a single GH-secreting pituitary adenoma; however, in certain genetic syndromes that predispose to the development of various tumours, such as NF1 or Carney’s complex, generalised mammosomatotroph hyperplasia can be seen, as in this case. After 2 months of cabergoline therapy, the patient noted a reduction in her ring size.

Intraparotid Neurofibroma of the Facial Nerve: A Case Report
Introduction: Intraparotid neurofibromas of the facial nerve are extremely rare and mostly associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). Case Report: This is a case of a healthy 40-year-old man, which underwent surgery for a preoperatively diagnosed benign parotid gland lesion. After identification of the facial nerve main trunk, a single large mass (6 x 3 cm) incorporating the upper nerve d...
متن کاملVolumetric evaluation of pituitary gland in dog and cat using computed tomography
The objective of this study was to evaluate the pituitary gland dimensions due to age and weight using computed tomography (CT) in dogs and cats. The CT images of pituitary gland were assessed in 11 client-owned dogs (six males and five females; age range, 1 to 9 years) and 15 client-owned cats (eight males and seven females; age range, 1 to 14 years) with no evidence of pituitary diseases. The...
متن کاملبررسی وجود انحراف طرفی ساقه غده هیپوفیز نرمال در افراد بالغ توسط MRI
Background & Aim: Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) in the coronal plane before and after contrast is currently considered to be the most specific and sensitive technique for imaging pituitary gland. However, because of the false negative results of this method in the detection of pituitary microadenomas and the importance of finding these microadenomas, infundibular deviation or tilt in MRI ...
متن کاملMeningioangiomatosis in an otherwise healthy 13 year-old boy: A case report with emphasis on histopathological findings
Meningioangiomatosis is regarded as a rare benign hamartomatous condition mostly involving the cerebral cortex and overlying leptomeninges. A strong association of MA with neurofibromatosis type 2 has been documented in published articles. Herein we report a case of an otherwise healthy 13-year-old boy with no family history or stigmata of neurofibromatosis who presented with intractable seizur...
متن کاملAnatomical and cytohistological study of the pituitary gland in adult turkey
In order to conduct this study, eight adult turkey heads were obtained. Pituitary glands were harvested following cranial bones removal and examined morphologically and anatomically as well as topographically. Then, tissue sections were prepared and stained using Hematoxylin and Eosin, Alcian blue, orange G and periodic acid-Schiff staining techniques. The results showed that turkey pituitary g...
